Why can't I get the water to shut off on my single handle

Customer Question

Why can't I get the water to shut off on my single handle shower valve?

There is a nylon 'cage' inside the valve that is moved in and out by the handle to regulate the water flow... the cage is broken and needs to be replaced. That part generally runs $10 to $15, a skilled plumber can replace it in half an hour or less.
