I have an 3 valve system on a 1970's shower. We have a 1970s
We have a 1970s 3 stem system and everything seemed to work fine for months. 2 weeks ago we heard a rumble and the pipe shaking as we turned on the water to fill the tub (hot or cold same), The noise may or may not continue, however the water normal stops flowing from the tub spout. Diverting to shower all is fine. Turning off the water and then back on again allows the water to momentarily start to flow but then the noise comes again and the water stops. I removed and examined the old stem and seat. Both are fine, however i installed a new one anyway. With the new valve there is no noise and very strong tub flow but stacking occurs with shower spraying about half power even with diverter fully opened. With diverter closed on either the old or new stem the shower function is fine. When i reinstall the old stem its right back to the old noise and water cut off issue. I switched them out 5 times and each has its own problem reoccurring each time. Strange !! Any ideas. … read more
