If a psychiatric pt. in treatment for depression and wants to under go breast augmentation. She gets the clearance note from her treating psychiatric nurse practioner that she is competent to make her decisionsto. Is this enough psychiatric clearance for the surgeon for going ahead to schedule surgery.

Thank you for your question. It would be best for the psychiatric patient to have medical clearance from the psychiatrist prior to any surgery. The psychiatrist should talk to the plastic surgeon about medication recommended for patient before and after surgery. I am available if there are more questions.
