VerifiedPlastic Surgeon : Thank you for your question. The diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma must always be considered. The proper treatment is to have this area removed surgically under local anesthesia by a board certified plastic surgeon. The area should be removed with a pathologist present so that this can be examined under the microscope while you are still in surgery. That way the margins of the area can be examined to make sure they are free of any skin cancer. The area can then be closed in the best possible way - either in a line or with a skin graft, if necessary. I am available if you have more questions.
Plastic Surgeon : Another way to treat this is with radiation but this is not the preferred method of treatment because there is no tissue diagnosis to make sure that it has been removed.
