VerifiedPlastic Surgeon : Thank you for your question. Your wife needs to be examined by an ophthalmologist for an eye exam to see if there are any reasons for her headaches and visual problems. Sometimes the excess skin of the upper eyelids can cause some symptoms but she needs an ophthalmology exam to verify this. If, indeed, the upper eyelid excess is causing symptoms, an upper eyelid blepharoplasty can be performed. The excess skin and any excess fatty tissue is removed under local anesthesia as an outpatient. The results with this surgery are excellent and sometimes, insurance will pay for this if it is a medical necessity. The lower eyelids can be performed at the same time but this part would be considered cosmetic.
