Thanks for your question. Non-invasive fat reduction with the laser is not effective from my perspective and training. Bulges of fat in areas such as the "tummy" in someone who is about 10 pounds overweight in someone your age (22) is best done with fat suction. This is done sometimes with local aneshtesa as an outpatient through small incisions (usually one or two) which are less than 1/2 inch, in areas which are not noticeable after healing. The fat cells are removed and usually bulging does not return unless considerable weight gain occurs. The fat cells are removed in one procedure so they can not come back (although weight gain can occur with fat bulges in other areas). Side effects are a little soreness but usual work can occur within a few days and exercise within a couple of weeks. Some swelling and bruising usually occurs and can last for about two to three weeks. Although some lasers may permenantly destroy fat cells it is unpredictable and may cause harm to the overlying skin. Repeated sessions are often necessary and results may not be satisfying.
