VerifiedPlastic Surgeon : The best and most effective treatment for the eyelids at this time in your life is cosmetic blepharoplasty. It is surgery for removal of the excess skin and fatty tissue of the upper and lower eyelids. This is performed under local anesthesia with sedation as an outpatient. The non-surgical treatments will not give you the best and longest lasting result.

How long is the recovery for that type of surgery?
Plastic Surgeon : You would have to refrain from any exercise and running for about 2-3 weeks. There should be no physical exertion during that time. Total healing time to where the scars fade can take 4-6 months or more.

it sounds like a painful surgery... is it? Does it require a lot of maintenance during recovery?
Plastic Surgeon : The surgery is surprisingly not very painful to recover from. You may need pain medication for only a few days. Maintenance is minimal.

this has been very helpful - I was thinking of having surgery of that sort at 60 but now, maybe sooner. How long would the results last -- on an average
Plastic Surgeon : You should consider a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon who can examine you and discuss your options.

Plastic Surgeon : The amount of time that this surgery will last varies from person to person. It will last longer if it is performed earlier in life - usually 7-10 years. It slows the aging process but does not stop it, of course.

yeah only death stops aging... Ill talk with some plastic surgeons in my area. Do you know anyone that you could recommend in the DC area that is board certified and really is extremely competent?
Plastic Surgeon : The best advice that I could give you is to check with the American Board of Plastic Surgery and also to look online for board certified plastic surgeons in your area. Then you should make an appointment with at least two surgeons just for your own peace of mind. If you are still not satisfied after that, then see another plastic surgeon. You should feel comfortable and confident with your decision.
