My phone (which is new) always shows NEW VOICE MAIL press VM when I do this a number rings automatically When I check for voice mail it is empty.

It is not a smartphone it is home phone Model #KX-TGD390

I have tried erasing re: operating instructions. this has been going on for 3weeks

1) How are message NORMALLY listened to (pressing a PLAY button on the main base, manually dialing in to a service, etc.)?
2) What landline phone service provider (phone company) you have for this phone line?
3) Can you do a quick TEST for me? That TEST is to pick up any handset - while NOT on a call - press the TALK (or SPEAKER) button, and QUICKLY LISTEN for a dial tone. Please let me know if you hear ANYTHING BEFORE the STEADY dial tone - such as a few beeps or pulsed dial tones.
