Havin trouble setting up new phone KX-TG9581. wont ring on base unit and does not stop ringing at 4 rings also can't get pre-recorded greeting to come on.

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your KX-TG9581? What have you tried so far?

1) I note that this is a 2-line system, so are BOTH lines in use, or just one?

2) When saying the base won't ring, does that mean that a cordless handset DOES ring for incoming calls?

3) What landline phone service provider (phone company) you have for this phone line?

4) Do you have ANY other devices/phones (NOT part of the NEW system) attached to this same phone line(s) and if so, are they working properly?

both line are in service. No other phones on system.

OK - for issue of the BASE not ringing:

Please look at the DISPLAY on the base and let me know if you see any icons - such as a "bell with a line through it", and ANY other symbols next to it (like L1, L2, etc.)?

OK - you mentioned earlier that the base did NOT ring.

So can you tell me what DISPLAYS on the base (or handset) when the one ring occurs?

OK - just for MY clarification - does the HANDSET continue to ring, while the main base STOPS ringing after only 1 ring?

And does this happen for ALL CALLS coming in, from multiple callers (numbers)?

OK - can you CONFIRM that these are calls that are coming in via the LANDLINE SERVICE PROVIDER (AT&T)?

Also, do you have access to an outside phone - such as a cell phone - that can be used to call the landline number (of line 1)?

OK - and have you been calling the Line 1 landline number with your cell?

And if so, does the CALLER ID of your cell phone appear on the display of ANY of the Panasonic phones during these calls?
