I have a panasonic...

I have a panasonic phone answeriing KX-tg9541. I have my answering message but when phoner calls and we do not answer they hear our message but there is no beep to start talking telling of the reason for their call. Also what does CID mean?

I tried to read the instructions and have followed but I have problem getting the menu. I can not now turn on the light for answer on/off line 1 or line 2

4) Do you have access to an outside phone (cell phone, neighbor's phone) that can be used to place a TEST CALL or two to the Panasonic system?
