Model 5854 -- your robot phone answerer has already told me

Customer Question

Model 5854 -- your robot phone answerer has already told me that the phone is old--so I know that. After a power outage, the message on tne base reads "A" and the phone says "messages to this number cannot be recorded." Following the instructions in the manual, I went to the third setting. hen I change to either on or off, "A" remains and the phone will not record messages. Now what?
JA: Just to clarify, what's the exact make and model of your machine?
Customer: Model ia5854
JA: How long has this been going on? What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Outage one hour, this problem two days. I think I just told you that what I did--I followed the troubleshooting instructions. Whether the setting under "announce only" is changed, it still says "No message can be recorded."
JA: Anything else you want the phone expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I thought YOU were the phone expert. I have to do this again, I see. Analog and conversations with real people are better.

Hello & Welcome to Just Answer,

I'm Greg and will do my best to assist you today.

Sorry to hear of any issue you are having with your phones.

To help you with this issue, may I ask:

1) The FULL Make (Brand) & Model Number of the phone system you are working with? For example, is this a Vtech system (model seems to match, but I just want to make sure).

2) Were you able to turn OFF the "Announce Only" feature - and get the "A" on the display to go away?

3) Were you able to set the TIME and record your own announcement?
