I purchased a KX-TG585SK. Cannot get messages on answering

I purchased a KX-TG585SK. Cannot get messages on answering machine. Message on hand set is "voicemail message. via phone co.". Provider is stopping messages. Charter (phone) states that my voicemail is not active and that it is a problem with the phone not with them. What do i do?

Sorry you are having trouble with your phones and message systems.

May I ask if you can do a quick TEST for me?

Can you pick up any handset, press the TALK button, and then QUICKLY listen for the dial tone?

It may take a couple of tries, but let me know if you hear:

- A CLEAR and STEADY dial tone

- A few "beeps" - followed by a clear dial tone.

- A few "pulsed" dial tones, followed by a STEADY dial tone.

- something else.

I may have another few questions about this issue for you after this one.
