I have a KX-TGA-652 with three extensions. It seems to be stuck in "New Voice Mail - Press VM." That is that note is shown on the screen. How do I get rid of it? I did change the batteries....didn't work.

Hello & Welcome to Just Answer,

May I ask the Model Number of the Main Base Unit of your phone system?
That number should have a format of KX-TGxxxx - where xxxx is a 4-digit number (the KX-TGA numbers are for the handsets only).

May I also ask the AGE of this phone system and WHEN this issue first began?

MONTHS AGO, I CAN USE PHONE. IT JUST OFFENDS MY SENSE OF NEATNESS.

Hi again and thanks for that information.

So what that message means is that a "Voice Mail" message is waiting OR a Voice Mail system (from your service provider) has been turned ON (months ago) and it needs to be set up.

Now let me be clear - this "Voice Mail" system is DIFFERENT and SEPARATE from the "Answering System" that is built into the main base unit of your system. So I must ask if you actually USE or were aware of the voice mail system being active on your phone service?

We can TEST - to see if such a voice mail system is active, if you would like.

Please let me know.

WELL, I AM AWARE THAT I HAVE AN ANSWERING SYSTEM. FRANKLY, I JUST WISH THAT I COULD TURN OFF THE VM THAT I APPARENTLY HAVE FROM MY PHONE COMPANY(?)//// WHATEVER. PEOPLE CAN LEAVE ME VOCAL MSGS. I THINK THAT I AM GOING TO SWITCH TO AN IPHONE AND GET WITH THE YOUNGER SET, BECOME A STEVE JOBS ACOLYTE...............

Hi again,

I don't know if you REALLY want to "get with the younger set" ... it sounds like you (and I) are pretty "used to" tools and toys that "just work" - at least when they are left alone.

Let me have you do a very QUICK TEST for me - to see if indeed there is a Voice Mail system active on your phone line.

To do this, simply pick up any of the handsets you have, and press the TALK button. At the same time - QUICKLY listen for the dial tone. You may have to do this more than once, but if you hear a series of "pulsed" dial tones - followed by a "steady" dial tone, that is the usual "signal" that a voice mail sends to your home phone - to let you know there is a Voice mail waiting (or the system needs to be set up).

Please give that a try or two, and let me know if you hear those pulsed tones - right when you press the TALK button.

Hi again and thanks for that information.

OK - that CONFIRMS that you DO have a Voice Mail system active on your phone line OR that system was turned ON by your phone service provider.

Now here's the thing: Many phone service providers will simply "turn on" the system AND start to bill you an monthly additional fee. So if you noticed that your phone bill went up a few dollars about the same time this started to happen, then that would explain the reason of the increase in your bill.

So what I would recommend is to check your recent phone bills, and then contact your service provider to have the system turned OFF. At the same time, I would also tell them that you want any fees that have been charged for this service to be returned to you, or credited to your account. You may find that it is only a few dollars a month, but with taxes and other fees that may be added to that, it adds up quickly.

Once that system is turned off, then the "pulsed tones" and the "Voice Mail" message on the phones will go away.

I hope this helps explain what is happening and how to resolve this issue. Please let me know your results or REPLY if you have more questions. I'm here almost every day to help.
