If I understand your question, your wife feels that Methanamine may be causing/contributing to acid reflux and wants to know if it can be stopped without a taper.
This medication can be stopped without a taper. She could even stop it for a few days to see if her symptoms improve and restart the medicine, if necessary. Please do check with her doctor before stopping or starting the medication, though, so they can help monitor her progress.
Just a side note...you mentioned that she started Prednisone a few months ago? This may be a more likely cause of acid reflux. When this medicine is stopped after gradually reducing it as you mentioned, she may notice a big improvement.
