What ingredient would cause severe sinus congestion when switched from Advair (used for years with no issues) to Symbacort inhaler.

Doctor's Assistant: How long have you been dealing with this? Are you having any breathing problems?

I used Cymbacort for 4 weeks with severe congestion and labored breathing at times. Stoped Sunday and Monday and today the congestion is completely gone but a little breathing issues once in a while. Asked my doctor to put me back on Advair but CarePlus says it to expensive. I could get it from Canada for very little.

Doctor's Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?

Was taken off Lopid two years ago due to muscle pain. They are all steroids but would like to know why the Advair does not cause problems. It must be a different ingredient?

Hi! If I understand your question, you want to know what ingredients are different between Advair vs Symbicort so you can determine what may be causing sinus congestion . Is this correct?

please. The company my Dr works had him switch me to Symbacort because it so much cheaper and he will not switch me back even with the sever congestion. He put me on Amoxiicillin to fix it but it did not work. Its crazy because i could get Advair from Canada for a third of the cost but he would be able to give me a presciption. It is sad that Medicare is only worried about their profit not the patients care. Maybe if I could show him why Symbacort is causing this i would have hope of getting back on a prescription that works for me. Thank you.

Please let me know which formulation of Advair (HFA or Diskus) and Symbicort (Aerosol or Powder)? They contain different ingredients. Thank you!

Ok, so the only difference in the formulations is that active ingredients (they both contain the same inactive ingredient).

Advair:

fluticasone propionate

salmeterol xinafoate

Symbicort:

Budesonide

formoterol fumarate dihydrate
