I was prescribed Bactrim today for recurring skin abscesses.

Customer Question

I was prescribed Bactrim today for recurring skin abscesses. I am muslim and this is Ramadan, so I should be fasting during the day hours (4:30am - 9pm). Will the medicine still work if I take it at 7 1/2 and 16 1/2 hour intervals, or does it need to be 12 hours apart? I'm allowed to break my fast if it is medically necessary, but I'd rather not break it if I don't have to.
JA: What medications do you take daily? Are you allergic to any medications?
Customer: I don't take any regular meds and I'm not allergic to anything
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: I was given a shot of rocephen and started the bactrim at 7:30 pm Friday I need to take the second one in the morning. Need to know if I should fast (no food, water, anything by mouth) or eat and drink fluids
