I have had chronic insomnia since the age of 17 and have been on a sleep med everyday since the age of 17 and I am now 51 and my insomnia has gotten worse with menopause. I cam currently taking Sonata and I get two hours of sleep with it. My doctor tried to give me 60 so, I could take another one when I get up two hours later. My Rx company would only approve #15 for 25 days. I received CBT therapy and it has not worked and I just started with DBT last Mon. I had a sleep study which revealed mild obstructive airway. I am 5'4" and 91 lbs, so I really don't fit the category. I honestly just hold my breath for some own known reason even when I am awake. My BF will look at me when I am sleeping and say, "Breath already". According to the test I was experiencing these event I was on average experiencing seven central apneas and 5 obstructive apneas with the lowest pulse Ox being 74% and my pulse ranging from 39-115 per min. The sleep specialist said a Cpap would make my insomnia worse and a sedative would make my sleep apnea worse and simply suggested I not drive while tired. I have already five minor car accidents as a result of falling asleep while driving. I worked swing shifts for about 15 years, which didn't help. The following is what I have been on for sleep since the age of 17:
Restoril, Klonopin, xanax, ativan, rozerem, thorzine, chloral hydrate, belsomra, flexeril, skelaxin, remeron, halcion, seroquel, doxipin, visteril, atarax, benadryl, mellaril, Alluna, Kavinase, L-Theanine, ZZZquil, somapure, melatonin, tryptophan, valarian root, chamomile (sleepy time tea), poppy seeds, lavender spray for the sheets, lavenderr scented epsom salt bath salts, super snooze (valerian/hops/chamomile), silient night (Nature's Way), Sleep Relief, Revitalizing Sleep formula, cherry juice, CBD oil without the THC, Sleep restorative rest spray - shown on shark tank, Badgar sleep balm. In addition, I got sound machine, changed my blinds in my bedroom, took the TV out of the bedroom, will not work on the computer two hrs before trying to go to bed. I CAN'T sleep and now I want to go off the Sonata because I am once again doing things that I don't remember doing, just like I had with the Ambien and the Belsomra. I know there is a risk of alzheimers with extended use of benzo's and I did have three aunts who had it, but not sleeping is destroying me and will only set me up for all the things that come along with lack of sleep that are already in my family, CAD, Stroke, diabetes (those that don't sleep are have a 4x greater chance of getting DM), etc. Do you have any other suggestions? They have tried giving me meds that most people get tired from like doxipin and seroquel and they give me the opposite effect. Because of my racing thought at night, I then suffer from severe panic attacks from putting too much pressure on getting to sleep and also suffering from PTSD...was given minipress, but my BP kept dropping too low as my baseline is 80/60. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
