Customer Question

I have been diagnosed with high anxiety and have been prescribed valium .5 MG 3 times a day. However the valium doesn't stop the anxiety fully. I have also been prescribed klonopin and lorazapam. None of them seem to work. What medicine would be best?

Hi Jeff,

Given your medication history, you will likely need a combination of medicines to control your anxiety. Benzodiazepines like Valium, Klonopin and Ativan all have the problem of tolerance with long-term use (meaning your body requires higher doses to get the same effect), so you may need a dose increase. Severe cases of anxiety often require a benzodiazepine, Buspar, and an antidepressant (s). You may consider discussing with your doctor the addition of an antidepressant (Lexapro, Cymbalta, Paxil or Effexor are good ones to try first as they are FDA indicated to treat anxiety).

If you have follow-up questions, I will be happy to respond.

Thanks,

Hi Jeff,

I haven't heard back from you yet and was wondering if you looked into those treatments I recommended for anxiety? Have you tried an antidepressant yet with your current regimen?

Thanks,
