Carvedilol (brand name Coreg) is classified as a beta blocking agent with alpha blocking activity. FDA labeled indications for use include: heart failure; hypertension (high blood pressure); left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction. "Off-labeled" uses ("off-label" means a use of this medication for which the medication has not received FDA approval) include: angina pectoris. So, to summarize, Coreg is commonly used for both indicatons - on is an FDA approved indication; the other is not.
