Both metoprolol and imdur are drugs that affect the heart, but for different indications. Without knowing the full medical history, I cannot say whether or not it is safe to take. Metoprolol is typically used to maintain an appropriate blood pressure, while imdur is used to treat patients who has acute coronary syndromes (ACS) - this can include a heart attack or unstable angina. I would consider these medications safe in this patient, if their vitals (heart rate, blood pressure, etc...) are being monitored on a regular basis. The point at which we consider the doses to be 'too high' is when he starts to experience side effects from them.

Thank you for that information. You are correct, I did say it was safe to take those two medications together; however, after hearing that he is experiencing these side effects, I would strongly urge him to see his doctor to change his therapy, and would not consider it safe to take them both. It is concerning that his blood pressure is too low. This may be caused by either one or both of his meds. The only recommendation I can make outside of having his doctor either lower the doses or stop the medications all together, is to make sure that he is not taking both meds at the same time. He can take the one in the morning and one in the evening. If there is one of the two in particular that he knows causes these effects, I would recommend taking that one just before bed.
