Customer: She has a Blister looking thing on her abdomen. Looks like it needs to pop. I assume it is an absess?
JA: I'll do all I can to help. What type of animal are we talking about?
Customer: Hamster
JA: When did you first notice the blister? Has the hamster been licking or rubbing the skin?
Customer: Noticed just now. Not sure when it started developing. No she isn't licking it that I can tell
JA: And what's the hamster's name and age?
Customer: Princess. She's a year and a half I think?
JA: Is there anything else the Vet should know before I connect you? Rest assured that they'll be able to help you.
Customer: What is the charge for this service?

Hi, JACustomer. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for over 15 years and I'm happy to help. Please stand by while I have a chance to type.

I am so sorry that your companion has you worried. Can you share a few pictures of your concern to our chat? I’d like to see what you’re seeing specifically.

Hello?

I'm here. Your responses are just now coming through.

This could be an abscess but may also be a tumor. I would suggest allowing your vet to take a look and perform a fine needle aspirate to see what is inside. From there, a treatment plan can be made ranging from lancing and draining (if an abscess) with antibiotics and pain meds during healing to surgical removal of the tumor (assuming an abscess is not present).

At home, I would suggest cleaning the area 2x daily with saline, patting dry gently and dabbing on regular Neosporin (not the variety with pain relief). Rub in well. Avoid bedding that might stick to the area. You can purchase an OTC saline solution or make your own at home by combining one cup of boiling tap water to 1 tbsp of table salt. Dissolve and allow to come to room temp before using.

Before we formally end our discussion, I want to make sure that we will both be leaving this interaction feeling like we’ve addressed your concern effectively. Would you say that you are comfortable with the next steps we’ve established together? If not, can you tell me how I can best assist you?
