My 8 week old puppy is very unstable after sleeping (

Hi, my 8 week old puppy is very unstable after sleeping ( walking as if drunk!) this goes after a few minutes, she sleeps more than I expected, and generally lethargic.. but she is eating well and bowel movements normal, she is a pouchon first generation. I will add I discovered she had ear mites which I'm treating with medication.. Just feeling she's not right .. many thanks

Hi, i`m Richard, a Veterinarian from the UK. Hopefully I can help today.

Has she shown any sign of seizures?

No she hasn't ,

Excellent. Is she otherwise well in herself?

Customer: replied 29 days ago.
she is, eating very well, even going outside to wee!,

Could the mites cause an ear infection which may effect her balance?

They certainly can. If she has a severe ear infection or mite infection, this can lead to rupture of the ear drum and can lead to balance issues. However I would expect that to be more constant rather than just for a few minutes after she wakes up. I would be keen to get on top of any ear problems to see how she goes from there, before considering other factors affecting her wobbles though. So the ears should be our top priority. What are you treating her ears with?

Customer: replied 29 days ago.
It's Canaural 5 drops each ear twice a day.. she is livelier today and not scratching as much.

How long has she been on the canaural for now?

Customer: replied 29 days ago.
Since Monday so third day today

Ok, I would continue on that for at least another 7 days before assessing a response. You should notice her ears getting cleaner and much less wax. If it is due to an ear infection, her signs should improve as we get on top of her ear problem.

She is notably livelier today and no wobbles! Feel reassured .... hopefully those nasty mites will be gone very soon!! Many thanks for your advice
