Hello and welcome. My name is ***** ***** I'm a biologist with a special interest in fish. I'm sorry to hear of this problem.Laying on the bottom of the tank only tells us that a fish is sick. It's a very vague symptom that doesn't tell us exactly what is wrong. However, mthe most common cause of goldfish illness is ammonia or nitrites in the water. The first step is to test the water for these two chemicals. They are colorless, so we can't see them. If you don't already have a test kit, you probably won't be able to do this until tomorrow. When you get a test kit, buy the kind with test tubes and chemicals you add to water samples. The other kind - with paper strips you dip in the water- are not accurate. For tonight, you can take a step that often helps no matter what is wrong. Change 1/3 of the water. Be sure to use water the same temperature as what is in the tank and that has been de-chlorinated. If you have any aquarium salt, add one teaspoon per gallon of water in the tank. If you don't have any, that will have to wait until tomorrow, too.Let me know when you get your water test results, and tell me how the fish is doing in the morning. We'll proceed from there. I hope he will be able to recover.Anna
