Customer Question

I have a problem in my freshwater aquarium with some type of tiny, white swimming critters. It started in a small new aquar. with everything new in it. Sand, Cholla wood, Marimo moss balls. Had 10 small freshwater shrimp and 2 snails also. After about 2 weeks, I took time-lapse video of the tank. watching video I saw about a dozen tiny white dots swimming around. over the next week or so these increased easily into hundreds plus. Also small white worms appeared in the sand. Fast forward to today ( about 40 days later ) I removed snails & shrimp and after extensive isolation moved them to another larger tank with nothing from the first tank. The first tank was emptied, flushed four times with filtered water, and the filter run for a couple of days, and after I videoed it again there was still tiny white critters in the tank. I then used several doses of salt over a week and i believe I finally cleared the tank. But now after 3 weeks in the larger tank, the critters have appeared in there. I have no idea how they got in this tank, and no idea of what they are or how to rid the tank of them. I have had aquariums on and off for 25 years and never seen this. Any ideas or help would be welcome, thanks.

Hello,My name is ***** ***** I have been a Vet tech and an aquarium keeper for 40+ years. I suspect what you are actually seeing is Eggs and baby shrimp. I could be wrong, but it sounds like the worms are brine shrimp and the small white spots are the baby shrimp with egg sacs still attached and not absorbed.Joan

I can not really tell about the baby shrimp thing. How long does it take before you can really tell. Do brine shrimp wriggle thru sand? I have raised brine shrimp to feed my fish in the past. Not comfortable with this answer. Just feel like something is missing.

No Problem I will opt out and have someone else answer. No need to rate since it was speculation.
