Hello and thanks for researching this very important question...I am sorry that no one online earlier felt able to discuss this with you.

Seizures in Rabbits can damage the brain very easily if the body overheats during the episode. Epilepsy can be treated with medication.

Rabbits might have seizures as a "side effect" of a number of health problems. But it can be hard to distinguish a true brain seizure from a severe abdominal spasms that results from a digestive stasis.

The painful cramps associated with gastrointestinal stasis (stoppage) can look a lot like seizures, so I will give you some information about both problems.

Read all about proper Rabbit nutrition here...wet or sugary foods can damage the digestive organs and make the giant bowel of this species sluggish, then prone to blockages:

A list of common health problems to consider with actual seizures are outlined here:

It is best to have this pet evaluated by a veterinarian who understands how to handle and treat this unique species.

What Customers are Saying:

I must tell you I found this site by accident and was amazed when I asked a question of the Veteranians online. I wish I could have found it sooner it could have made such a difference in the outcome of my pet's surgery. However, I am passing along the information to my sister-in-law (a cat-rescue person who is also a nurse), and perhaps it will help someone else who may experience the same problem. The doctor who answered my question was amazing, and while it didn't come it time to change the outcome of my situation, it is reassuring to know the caliber of Vets/Doctors that you have at JustAnswer. Thank you for being there.
