How big, in gallons, is the pond that the fish is in?

How many koi/fish are in the pond?

Are any of the other fish being affected?

.

Thanks for the information.

The causes of a bent tail/spine in a koi are:

1)The fish may have some type of problem in it's genetic make up.

2)An injury can cause the spine to bend.

3)Deficiences in the fish's diet.

4)Old age

5)Fish Tuberculosis (TB).

With the exception of fish TB a bent/curved spine is not caused by a disease and is more anatomical related. This is not being caused by a virus.

The best thing to do is to isolate the fish in an
aquarium. Fill the aquarium with 1/2 pond water and 1/2 freshwater. Add 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt per each 5 gallons of water.

Begin feeding the fish a varied diet that consists of live, frozen and flake food.
Try and add a fish vitamin to the water.
Do this for a month making sure to change 25% of the water weekly.

It's possible that your Koi might recover but keep in mind that a bent spine/tail is difficult if not impossible to rectify.

Good luck and please let me know if you have any questions.
