Customer Question

My leopard gecko has gone stiff feels cold but keeps opening his mouth really wide not sure what is wrong with him
JA: I'm sorry that gecko is feeling poorly. What seems to be the problem with gecko?
Customer: He was absolutely fine 2days ago he had food ate most of it but last night I noticed he started to act weird not moving much. Today he has gone a bit pale his tail is stiff in a upward position and he's not moving at all but keeps opening his mouth wide
JA: The veterinarian will know if gecko will be able to digest that. Is there anything else the veterinarian should be aware of about gecko?
Customer: He was sold to me two years ago he was absolutely fine when I changed his tank around. It hasn't really changed much since I got him he is always quite a chilled out lizard but he really is not right don't understand why he is so stiff he has heat nothing has changed in diet and his tank us always at the same temperature.

Hi this is Dr. Hill. Unfortunately, it sounds like your gecko is gasping for air. Reptiles will do this when they have a severe respiratory infection. You need to take him to your veterinarian or local emergency clinic right away to see if they can save him. He will need oxygen, fluid therapy and antibiotics.
