I have a red footed tortoise and have a friend who needs to

Customer Question

I have a red footed tortoise and have a friend who needs to give an ornate box turtle a home. Do they get along and can I put then in the same environment?

My name is ***** ***** I have been a Vet tech for 30+ years with special interest in Reptiles and Reptile rescue.

We do not cross species. Box turtles require a live prey diet where as the Red Foot Diet is a Vegetarian Diet. There infections can be spread and cross contaminate the tortoise and turtle. Some people will keep them together but there is also a possibility of inter species aggression and injuries. Box turtles require a higher humidity level than the Red Foot. Feeding becomes a problem as well as temps.

Some people do take the chance, but I do not recommend that they be housed together.
