How big was the turtle?
Is the yard fenced with a sold, where the turtle could not get out?
Do you live out in the country?
Thanks for getting back to me regarding Spicey the Turtle. the turtle was approximately
10 incnes. The yard is fenced in to contain my dogs. I suppose it is pretty solid but not really sure. I live in the suburbs. The houses have very little land and are very close together.
Turtles are notorious diggers and my have dug under the fence. I would look for areas that he may have escaped. Another problem that I am concerned about is a turtle is a prime target for birds and and animals like Raccoons. The last thing is if this was a female turtle she may have escaped to lay eggs. Females in the reptile world can produce eggs without a male. They will go through the whole process of digging a nest and laying the eggs. You may want to check the yard under the shrubs for a mound of feshly dug up dirt as she may have laid her eggs. If could could not find a place in your yard, she may have gotten out to do so. I would have you neighbors check their yards for the turtle as they are great escape artists. Joan
