Hello! I’m watching my sister in law’s dog. He’s bee with us since Saturday. He ate a small bread bowl and got into our garbage. Sunday I found a dried pile of clear vomit. Then he began having liquid orange stool. My sis in law said he peed in her house three times before I picked him up. He’s almost 3 and is house broken. I’m just trying to rule out if it’s an actual liver issue or due to him being really nervous and at our house.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your sister-in-law's dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Harrison

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Harrison?

He does take an ace pill in the am to help with his anxiety. He worries a lot and since his mom is gone I think it’s enhanced.

I haven’t changed his diet/treats. He been eating his own food/treats my sis in law gave me to take. I also mixed some pumpkin with his food yesterday. Then today I mixed his food with rice.

Hi Dr. W here. I'm sorry to hear this. Does he have a history of liver problems?

Not that I know of! I’ve noticed my sis in law and she told me to give him his calcium bones to help form better stool. But he only wants human food to eat.

Notified not notice

Ok that's great. It sounds based on what you are describing that he has a gastroenterocolitis from getting into the garbage. This is very common. Canned pumpkin is good as it is high in fiber. Zantac or Pepsid is also good to help control stomach acid and stomach discomfort. If the diarrhea or vomiting persists for longer than 12 hours then he should be seen by your vet who will most likely prescribe Metronidazole to settle the stomach down. Sometimes, however this will just work its way through and resolve on its own.

Ok! Thank you! Should I try zantac or Pepcid for a couple days and if doesn’t resolve call his vet?

Yes I think that is a good plan
