Customer Question
My dog has pitting edema...
My dog has pitting edema that just started a couple days ago. It was only his front left leg yesterday and now it's his rear right leg as well. He had blood work done yesterday and everything seems ok. He also had x rays taken and nothing is showing up. I've had two vets look at the results and both don't know what's going on.
He's on antibiotics right now but the edema seems to be getting worse now with the rear leg as well... He's not eating or drinking and he is extremely lethargic. His rear leg does seem to be a bit warm. No vomiting. Any ideas?
Thank you

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Please let me know if you still need help. May I have an update on Cooper, please?

Can you upload a copy of his test results to our conversation? I understand that you might not have a copy at home but his vet can give you one which you can scan into your computer and then give me the file link or you can photograph the pages and upload them by using the paperclip icon (if you can see that icon) or by using an external app such as dropbox.com/

I not only review the test results but also note which tests should have been performed but weren't. I'm particularly interested in his serum albumin level. If normal, the underdiagnosed lymphedema needs to be considered. Lymphedema describes accumulation of protein-rich interstitial fluid caused by impaired lymphatic function often caused by a local or metastatic cancer in elderly dogs.

Hi Dr. Salkin. I was able to take him to another vet who did some more x-rays and blood tests. She thinks he has an aggressive cancer and has suggested euthanasia... Thank you for trying to help, I was definitely hoping for some better news :(

I understand. Thank you for taking the time to let me know. You may receive an inappropriate follow-up from the site ostensibly sent by me. It wasn't and I apologize in advance should you receive it.
