I just saw my 75-pound golden retriever mix munching on a cluster of pyracantha berries. I'm cutting them down now but I don't know how much she's eaten

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Cinnamon 6yrs

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about the dog?

No health issues. About a week ago she was vomiting the land formed at the mouth and I never knew what it was. Now I think I suspect I do

I am sorry to hear you are worried about Cinnamon eating pyracantha. These berries are considered nontoxic to dogs, but can cause irritation so you might see some vomiting.

Ask Your Own Dog Question

The vomiting you saw last week could have been due to this, but no long term problems would be expected.

That makes me feel a lot better. I heard they were toxic and I was worried she'd eaten enough to kill herself.

I checked with a veterinary toxicologist; they are considered nontoxic.
