Customer Question
My puppy who weighs...

My puppy who weighs about 19lbs MIGHT have eaten a 20 mg lexapro about 2 hours ago. I pulled her out from behind my fathers recliner there were moist pills but I can’t be sure she has eaten any. Immediately following I googled to find out what to do. About 12 minutes later I did give 1 teaspoon of peroxide which in about 3 minutes induced vomiting she vomited about

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if your puppy will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?

Mishka . When looking through her vomit I did not see any sign of any pill mostly liquid and some treat remnants

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about your puppy?

She’s sleepy now but hasn’t napped all day and she’s 3 months old

You addressed a possible escitalopram (Lexapro) ingestion nicely. At doses of just 0.15 mg per pound of body weight dogs can become lethargic and ataxic (drunken sailor) - usually within 12-24 hours. At doses of 2 mg per pound of body weight, tremors and vocalization arise. Mishka may ingested 1 mg per pound of body weight. I believe that Mishka will do nicely. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.

Thank you. Are there any other items which I should stay alert for with Mishka? Besides the items listed above.

At the dose you posted only sedation, lethargy, and ataxia might arise. Your inducing emesis so quickly should be protective and you might not see any adverse effects at all. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
