I'm sorry to hear that Chloe is experiencing pain. Are you seeing any drooling or pawing at the face?

Has your vet discussed having her sedated and cleaning/pulling the diseased teeth?

Is she on any medication?

I do have some ill check when I get back home I just went to the store

Let me know what those are and I'll be able to help more. For now, you can give her aspirin to help with discomfort. Avoid other OTC medications as they can be toxic. Aspirin dosage here: https://www.veterinaryplace.com/dog-medicine/aspirin-for-dogs/

If funding is keeping you from being able to have her periodontal disease addressed consider applying for financial aid or financing with these organizations:

2 options for financing include www.carecredit.com and www.scratchpay.com. Both of these companies have low interest APR rates (starting at 5%) and allow you to pay for a vet bill over 6-24 months.

Okay so I have something that says smz/ TMP DS 800 - 160 tab generic for Bactrim DS and then I also have c e p h a l e x i n 500mg cap generic for Keflex and lastly I have Methocarbamol 750 mg tab Westward generic for Robaxin 750. I'm pretty sure all of these are antibiotics can I give her any of those
Dog Specialist: PitRottMommy, Veterinary Nurse replied 7 months ago

Methocarbamol/Robaxin is a muscle relaxer, you won't need that one.

Both antibiotics are pretty big and she's very small. TMPS is probably going to be easier to dose. You can find the dosage here: https://www.petcarerx.com/medication-guides/about-sulfamethoxazole-and-trimethoprim-for-pets/1123?page=all She can receive 1/2 tablet of the TMPS twice daily for 7-14 days. Make sure to give with a meal at each dosage. I would talk to your vet about keeping other antibiotics on hand like Clindamycin which is typically a better choice for oral infections/abscesses, as well as NSAIDs until her teeth can be professionally cleaned.

Ok so rhe bactrim twice per day at 1/2 the dose. Got it.
And i can give her baby aspirin too right? They are 81mg per tab so how much?
Customer reply replied 7 months ago
Since she wont chew maybe i can crush the tab and mix with water
Dog Specialist: PitRottMommy, Veterinary Nurse replied 7 months ago

That's correct. She needs 60mg 1-2x daily so I would try to break them in half or give 81mg only once daily. Be aware that aspirin can cause bleeding so if she's having some dental issues she may experience relief of discomfort but you may also see bleeding from her mouth.

The only other medicine she takes is lactulose for the liver shunt. It helps hwr poop and keeps her brain unfogged
Dog Specialist: PitRottMommy, Veterinary Nurse replied 7 months ago

Thank you for the additional information. If she has a liver shunt be aware that there may be an increased risk associated with medicating her at home without your veterinarian's direction and prescribing medication for her. Most often it's safe, but also worth mentioning.
