Customer Question
My dog has developed...

My dog has developed bumps ALL over his body overnight. They're even on his face by his eyes. Last night he was acting really clingy but I figured his stomach was just upset.

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. What is the matter with your dog?

My dog has developed bumps ALL over his body overnight. They're even on his face by his eyes. Last night he was acting really clingy but I figured his stomach was just upset.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Where does your dog seem to hurt?

He doesn't act like he's hurting anywhere... Just not quite as hyper as usual

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. No obvious pain. What is the dog's name and age?

Parker and 2

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Parker?

No.... We make his food... Rice veggies and a protein because the vet said he has allergies to other dog foods

Goodness. Parker looks like he's having an allergic reaction. The ideal situation would be to take him promptly to your local vet's office or ER for injectable benadryl and steroids to bring the swelling down. Failing this, you can administer benadryl at home in caplet or capsule form. 1-2mg/pound of body weight can be given every 8-12 hours until symptoms resolve. You should begin seeing an improvement within 2 hours of giving the medication, but watch for additional symptoms like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, pawing at the face, difficulty breathing, etc. If these appear he MUST be examined and treated. It's rare for an allergic reaction to become anaphylaxis but it can happen.
