Our dog {55lbs} just ate about a 1/2”x 1-1/2” piece of aluminum foil from a chicken pot pie tin. Any thoughts on how to address this?

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'll do all I can to help. The Expert will know if the dog will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name and age?

Riley, 13 yr old catahoula

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Riley?

Pretty hearty dog and acts younger than her age.

Thankfully, that's a tiny piece of foil that should pass unaided through the gastrointestinal tract of a 55 lb dog. The aluminum can be considered nontoxic because it's poorly bioavailable in that form. There's no need to induce emesis or treat in any manner. Please respond with further questions or concerns.

Seems reasonable for no need to induce emesis which was our main thought to try to remove it.
Dog Specialist: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Correct. Not such a tiny piece which presents far less risk to Riley than does inducing emesis. Please continue our conversation if you wish.
