I don't see an obvious discrete swelling. When looking at Hans's anus can you tell me where the swelling is located in terms of 5, 7, 11, 2 o'clock, for example, please? You can also circle the area in Microsoft Paint or a similar app. At this time I see a general hypertrophy of the anus consistent with an older male.

4, 8 and 12 o’clock - Hans has had skin allergies/sensitive skin since he was a puppy - the 12 o’clock area is larger than usual - perhaps sebaceous gland irritation/inflammation

Thank you. Give me a moment to take another look, please...

Yes, those areas represent hypertrophy more common in the intact male but also seen in older neutered dogs. Skin allergies can be contributory but need not be present as the hypertrophy is assumed to be hormonally mediated. Is Hans intact, please?

Hans is intact - I’m concerned presentation may be consistent with something sinister such as perianal gland adenocarcinoma
Dog Specialist: Dr. Michael Salkin, Veterinarian replied 7 months ago

Thank you. Benign hypertrophy makes the most sense, then. No, this is not a presentation of either adenoma or adenocarcinoma - both of which cause focal rather than diffuse lesions. Please continue on in our conversation if you wish.
