Customer Question
I adopted a new...

I adopted a new dog, she had a large bumb on her left eye... its no longer a bumb but it's hairless where it was.

Veterinarian's Assistant: Where does the dog seem to hurt?

Over left eye

Veterinarian's Assistant: OK. What is the dog's name and age?

Ember, 2 years

Veterinarian's Assistant: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Ember?

She was adopted with horrible hair loss from a bad diet. Her fur is growing back nicely since moving her to grain-free. But that spot over her eye is still bald.

Thanks for trusting me to help you and your pet today. I am a licensed veterinarian with over 30 years of experience and would be happy work with you but need a bit more information to better assist you if you don’t mind.

Can you tell me how long it has been since you noted the bump and since the bump has resolved?

Is she scratching at it?

Has she been seen by a vet for this yet?

We've only had her for about 4 weeks now.
When we first got her the bumb was huge but had fur on it. Now it's smooth but the fur is gone. When we got her she would scratch non-stop. Her rear end was bald. She had spots on her tail with no fur. But since moving her to grain free she doesn't scratch as much and her fur is growing back. She use to be covered in scabs but they are all healing now.No she hasn't.

Thank you for the reply.

I would definitely advise you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for this. Hair loss, with or without itching can be due to many things, including skin parasites like mange, ringworm, and even bacterial or fungal infections. There is no way to rule these out without further testing, but some of these conditions are contagious to other pets and even to humans. Even if she does have a food triggered allergy to grains, she could still have secondary infections or parasites that may require a separate treatment.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have ANY other questions. My goal is to give you 100% satisfaction and if you are not yet satisfied, please reply so I can clarify for you.

My posted replies are for general education only and not meant as a diagnosis. Only after a thorough veterinary examination can a diagnosis for your pet be made and specific treatments be advised or medications be prescribed.
