Customer Question
My puppy got groomed...

My puppy got groomed for the first time last Wednesday ,it's now Sunday . She has had frequent loose watery stools since ,actually 2-4 times per night as well as daytime. She's eating and drinking well ,maybe a little lethargic today ( but it's hot out) .spoke with groomer, they shaved her and did anal glands and said it can be normal for a couple of days and next time will not shave her next time. Starting to get worried since the frequency and looseness is not getting any better..

Veterinarian's Assistant: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Expert will know how to help your puppy. Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about your puppy?

No I think that's it

Hi. I’m Dr. Denise, a licensed veterinarian. I’d like to help with your concerns regarding your puppy.

What is her name? Breed? Weight?

Just a moment while I type my response.

She may have developed a stress colitis from all the excitement of her grooming appointment.

I recommend withholding her food (continue to allow normal access to water) for at least 12hrs. This will allow her GI tract to rest. Then start refeeding her tomorrow with a bland diet (boiled chicken/rice is ideal). This will help to firm up her stools and reduce her straining to go frequently.

If the diarrhea does note resolve (or dramatically improve) after 2 days on the bland diet, I recommend that she be seen by her veterinarian as she may need medications for a bacterial imbalance in her GI tract.
