Customer Question

For 1 hour now, my dog had "hiccup" like spasm. Her body would look like "hiccups" were occurring but no sound & maybe, ever so slightly, occurring faster than hiccups. No licking, no eating grass, no chewing on things. This body "hiccup" has stopped now.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Strange behavior is often perplexing. I'm sure the Veterinarian can help you. What is the dog's name and age?
Customer: Her name is Maggie & is 3 years old. Right now she seems to like us rubbing an area below the rib cage. If this is where her stomach is, maybe she swallowed "something" as she was chewing on a toy @10 minutes before her "episode. There were (aren't yet) no signs
JA: Is there anything else important you think the Veterinarian should know about Maggie?
Customer: No signs of choking , coughing after playing with the toy.

Good morning, Renee. Thanks for your question. Dogs can acquire hiccups so this may well have been what you witnessed. Have these episodes returned yet?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
She did NOT have hiccups. I only used the word to describe what I saw. I am looking for "possibilities" of what could cause such reaction. When she got up this a.m., she ate a little grass & had normal bowel movement. We will continue to monitor her today. thanks

If this happens again, please do share a video. These sound like hiccups. In dogs, they can happen at varying speeds and we seldom hear any noise as we would in humans.
