Woke up and found my mothers vitamin d bottle on floor. Not

Customer Question

Hi. Woke up and found my mothers vitamin d bottle on floor. Not sure if my puppy ate. D3 1000 is. My mom thinks roughly there were 20 pills left. Not 100 % sure how many or if dog actually ate. I have a lab puppy 6 months old and 45 lbs
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. The veterinarian will know if your puppy will be able to digest that. What is the dog's name?
Customer: Daisy
JA: Is there anything else the veterinarian should be aware of about Daisy?
Customer: She ate a very small bag of peanut m&m s last Friday from my daughter. She had bad diarrhea for few days. I have been giving ger rice and chicken and I see an improvement...... But now this. Ughhhh

Vitamin D overdose can result in acute renal failure. Doses of 1800 IU/lb are worrisome. 45 lbs x 1800 IU/lb = 81,000 IU and so it would appear that Daisy will remain safe. As with ingesting anything unusual transient gastrointestinal distress in the form of inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea can arise but unless Daisy ingested at least 81 of those vitamins, she wasn't intoxicated.
