She is lethargic with spurts of activity. No appetite really.

Customer Question

She is lethargic with spurts of activity. No appetite really. She's drinking water and urinating normally.
JA: I'm sorry to hear that. Could be a lot of things that cause lethargy. The Veterinarian will know how to help the dog. What is the dog's name and age?
Customer: My dog is a 6yr. old female Chihuahua. She has no appetite,is lethargic, Not getting excited at the usual things that perk her up. Her eyes appear a little weepy. Her abdomen is making some weird noises like she has a whistle inside her.
JA: Is there anything else the Veterinarian should be aware of about Chihuahua?
Customer: She has not been spayed. Her last cycle was May/June. She is current with all shots and is a little over weight.

Welcome and thanks for asking your question. My name is***** am sorry for the delay in response. If you would like to continue can you please answer a few questions so that I can be well informed and give you the best advice.

1- Any vomiting, diarrhea or coughing?

2- Any pre existing medical conditions?

3- How long has this been going on?

Note: I will not be able to make a live call, I am sorry.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No vomiting it diarrhea. She has that "reverse sneeze" but the sound she makes I think is related to her trachea. When she's too excited she experiences that. She has no pre-existing conditions. Even though I rescued her I have known her since she was a puppy and potty trained her etc. She has only been like this for a little over 24 hours.

1- Is she defecating?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No..... I'm with her always and haven't seen her defecate.
Expert:  Dr. Peter replied 11 months ago.

1- Has she tried to defecate?

2- Can you take a look at her gums and see if they are pink or pale?

3- Can you take her rectal temperature?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
She did yesterday... But because she hasn't eaten very much she didn't go today. I'll take her temp. And look at her gums. Can I use a human thermometer?
Expert:  Dr. Peter replied 11 months ago.

Yes, we use the same thermometer. To take a rectal temperature this is what you can do:

1- Lubricate thermometer tip with ky jelly, vaseline or soap and water.
2- Insert thermometer in rectum about 1 inch and gently press tip up against rectal wall.
3- Wait a minute or until it beeps.

Please, let me know, thanks.
