My King Charles Cavalier has the first signs of SM. I have a pro collar on her and botties to help prevent wounds from scratching but she is panicing. I have to go to work and I wanted to calm her down. I am wondering if I can give her part of my zanax

I'm sorry to hear of this with Ruby. Alprazolam (Xanax) is reasonable when dosed at 0.01- 0.025 mg/lb 2-4 times daily as needed. It sounds as if it's time to consider oral prednisone at 0.5 mg/lb every 12 hours and tapering if possible. Most of these dogs respond favorably.
