My 12 yr. old chihuahua just vomited - very little came up

Customer Question

My 12 yr. old chihuahua just vomited - very little came up and now is sitting up in her bed panting.
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: She woke up retching.....and according to the vet, he diagnosed Hepatitis over a year ago and she has been on Hills ID liver canned dog food but I supplement with dry food as her stools are so soft, almost runny. I don't know if this is part of the hepatitis diagnosis or something else. I feed her a small handful of dry food at night because she would vomit in the a.m. after eating about once a month and I read she probably needed to eat a little before bedtime so her stomach wouldn't be so empty in the morning.
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Dog Specialists generally expect a deposit of about $19 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

Hello & welcome, I am Dr. B, a licensed veterinarian and I would like to help you with your wee one today. What did the vomit look like? Can she keep water down? Has she been drinking more as of late? Are her gums pink, yellow tinted, or pale/white? Moist or sticky? If you press on her belly, does she have any discomfort, tenderness, or tensing?Could she have eaten something she should not have (ie bones, toys, rocks, plants, chemicals, etc)?Any blood in those loose stools?
