Customer Question

My old dog has arthritis. I've given his scheduled meds (Quellin and glucosamin). I have given him MY tramadol a couple of times. I have Pravail for horses. Can you give Prevail to dogs?
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: Chronic pain in his right shoulder. Also doing passive ROM and ice packs with him. Trying to get him into my vet tomorrow. I just want to get him some relief w/o giving him my dwindling stash of tramadol. Will get him some tomorrow.
JA: OK got it. Last thing — Dog Specialists generally expect a deposit of about $19 to help with your type of question (you only pay if satisfied). Now I'm going to take you to a page to place a secure deposit with JustAnswer. Don't worry, this chat is saved. After that, we will finish helping you.

Hello. You don't want to give any Prevail (Flunixin). This can cause GI ulcers and kidney failure in dogs. I would go with Tramadol. That is your safest option tonight. The dose is anywhere from 1-2.5 mg per lb body weight. It can be given every 6-12 hours, as needed. In the morning, i would have them start some Rimadyl or Metacam. I would also have Tramadol or Gabapentin on hand to give as needed for breakthrough pain. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.
