I'm reading the topics about dogs just staring. My schnauzer

Customer Question

I'm reading the topics about dogs just staring. My schnauzer is 15 and has been doing this for about a week. I'm sure it's serious because he had a seizure two weeks ago. He also just paces. Do you think he's in pain?

Head pain is possible because Taz's previous seizure, aimless wandering and staring indicates encephalopathy (brain disorder) involving his forebrain (cerebrum and thalamus). Primary brain disorders such as brain tumor at his age as well as metabolic disorders outside his brain which are affecting the brain might be responsible. When being tested for diabetes additional tests were likely to be performed and if nothing untoward were found by the process of exclusion a primary brain disorder is most likely. At that point MRI is recommended which I would find inappropriate at Taz's advanced age. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
