Veterinarian's Assistant: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?

I've not had a flea problem but just found one on my girl who has 5 day old pups. She started scratching about the time she whelped

Hello and thanks for your question.

Frontline has been tested and approved for nursing bitches.

If there are fleas on the puppies, bathing in Dawn dish detergent, then rinsing and drying well is also safe.

I am concerned about my lactating. We have a 4 day old
I am concerned about my lactating bitch. We have a 4 day old litter of puppies, all has been going famously. I understand as the milk comes into milk they pant a lot and get very warm. we've been juggling keeping her cool and ensuring the puppies are warm enough, again all going really well. Tonight Seven has been panting a lot more and taking longer to get up, looking particularly tired and some appetite loss. I just took her temp and it was 40.4 which I know is very high. Is this unheard of in a healthy lactating bitch at this time, should I rush her off to the vet? Or is this acceptable and should I continue to keep her as cool as I can and monitor her for a couple of hours? It is 2am here? Thanks for your help … read more
