Hi Jo ann, thanks for your question.

Is the medication something you may be able to pick up from your vet's office? Alternately, your vet may be able to write a prescription for aminophylline, which they may have in stock.

I have spoken with my vet & she does not have any solutions other than prescribing a
Cough med.

I wonder if your vet has considered the aminophylline option. If they don't have it, the pharmacy may. In some cases, they can be used interchangeably.

Did they mention what kind of 'cough medication' they would prescribe? Theophylline helps to open the airways, but a cough suppressant may actually also help.

Since he does suffer from cardiomegaly, when were his last chest x-rays performed? Is he on any specific heart medications like enalapril, vetmedin, lasix, etc?
