Customer Question

I rescued toy poodle mix from Spca one month ago. I barely worked, taking her everywhere I went. She was thought to be 1-2 years although seems to be teething
She came in as a stray, so little is known for sure except she had recently given birth to litter.
She has some problem behaviors. I take her on long walks and doesn't do her business and wants to go back home and promptly peas and poops. I have been patient in the kitchen. Yesterday I left her in bedroom with bath open and she destroyed carpet around door. What to do?

Hello, my name is***** and I would like to help with your question today. Although the exact age is undetermined, we need to treat Katie Belle as a new puppy that has had no housetraining experience. Many people go the crate training route. This would involve having her in a crate or confined small space while being unattended as well as overnight. She then needs to be taken outside promptly after leaving this kennel space as well as every 3-4 hours. She also cannot be let out of your sight in the house as this gives her the opportunity to have an accident. I believe is positive reinforcement -- so giving praise and treats when she does go outside as well as saying NO if catching her in the act inside and then promptly taking her outside immediately.

Depending on her exact age and her history, this process can take months to reinforce the behavior being the pet is considered house trained.
