Customer Question

My dog ate 88 pils of natures lawn aid. It consists of yucca, cranberry and Brewers yeast. Each tablet has 300mg of yeast. What should I do? She threw up earlier but hasn't since.

The ingredient list also contains methionine - an amino acid which acidifies the urine. It's the only ingredient of concern. In excess it can cause metabolic acidosis (too low of a blood pH) but a normal dog should be able to compensate for that change. Her vomiting was protective and her eating dinner is a good prognostic sign. I would continue to "watchful wait" and expect transient gastrointestinal distress from ingesting so much of an unusual food but not serious signs of toxicity. How much does Ruby weigh, please? We might dose methionine at 50 mg/lb to dogs.
